Hi Julie

We just got our visas last week!

We are going to goto Melbourne as well.

We are currently sifting through the shipping companies and weighing up which one to go for.

The contenders are :

AngloPacific, Crown relocations and GB liners.

Does anyone have experience with these.

A few have already recommended Crown.

I will keep you posted.

Just to add my couple of pence worth - we had 3 companies in to quote in the last 4 weeks: Britannia, Robinsons and Pickfords.

Robinsons and Pickfords worked out at £3800 and £3750 respectively, for sole use of a 20ft container including all pack and wrap, door to door. Britannia was £3096 for the same.

Tried to get Crown in to quote as well, but as they couldn't even be bothered to ring when they said they would (nice lady at the call centre had said they would call to make an appointment within 48 hours, it was 10 days later that we were contacted) we blew them out.

Julie,

New employers are paying, so cheapest wins every time. We did like what Britannia told us though, they certainly knew their stuff. Plus the Britannia agent this end is a little local firm that has been going for years and is well known for being very good.

Didn't try PSS, only needed 3 quotes!

Hi Julie

Our timing from case officer to visa aren't an accurate guide, because we had a baby on the way, and therefore had to delay our medicals by four months!

We had our case officer assigned in March and got our visas last week.

I have just emailed PSS and Pickfords, still haven't heard back from the others including Crown!

I hope the service is better in OZ!

We are unsure about areas in Melbourne. We want to be near (or at least close to a bus route for) a good independent girls school. We want a little space with our house, so that neighbours are not peering into our bathrooms etc.

Where are you guys thinking of settling and why?

Thanks

Mazza

As Jo says Crown Relo seem hard to beat.We used them twice and they were fantastic, they are one of the only companys that are Crown here too ,so no sub-contractors to blame!! they arent the cheapest but by far always have the best reports, and recieveing your stuff on time and in tact is sometimes worth that extra few quid.Lisa and Paul used PSS ,they seem ok UK side and everything got here but the contractors this side left alot to be desired and if Lisa hadnt chased them like she did ,i dont think they would have their stuff yet!Anglo Pacific always come out with the worst feedback for various reasons ,you never hear much about Robbinsons although they were my second choice.Hope this help you choose a little easier,,

Same here with Crown, they took ages to get back to us so we didnt bother, we had two quotes one from allied pickfords and one from Masons for a 20ft container with storage at this end for a couple of months both came in around £3,600, we have gone with pickfords will let you know how we find them they are coming on Wednesday and Thursday to wrap and pack. They also dont sub contract at the other end either.

Thanks Christine.

Keep us posted please. I got an automated email reply from crown, stating that the girl to contact is away until 10th October. And that's that I suppose!

We used John Mason who use Kent at this end. I was more than impressed. Paid £3700 + insurance etc. Everything arraived on time and nothing was lost or broken. We are on the Gold Coast.

I would highly recommend them.

We have used DAP. Our belongings are on the high seas as I type! They have charged £2,500 for a 20ft container. That included them coming to pack and wrap and store our stuff for 3 months and insurnace (although we only did a minimum premium - if it breaks it breaks!!). they are also going to deliver out stuff when we arrive. They have only just asked for payment!! Just hope our stuff arrives safely. Wasn't impressed when I called for an appointment for PSS to give an estimate - nearly 1 months wait!! DAP were around within a few days - very professional. Hope this helps!

Julie,

We are waiting for our stuff to be delivered as we are currently in Melbourne (the weather is poor at the mo!). The guys from PSS that packed for us were great, the prices we had from Pickfords and the rest were all the same, around the £3k mark. I will post back when we get our stuff, it should be hopefully in around 2 weeks. After a lot of research around this subjet, my advice is to go with what you feel comfortable with, at the end of the day, it's your stuff and you need to feel happy that they will do the right thing for you...

hello mazza, thanks for your reply.what was your time scale from case ack to case officer? we are a very outdoor family and i am a freelance horse riding instructor with a keen interest in dressage so we will be looking for a place with land.It is very horsey where we are going which is around the yarra valley area.(SITS UNDER THE DANDENONG RANGES)My sister lives in chirnside park which is where we stayed it is lovely there, nice houses all detached with good size plots.Nearly all the houses are detached so you wont have a problem with neighbours pokeing their nose over your fence!!i no it is personal preferance and it is a big area around Melbourne, but heres a few places i loved : heasville, macclesfield(my uncle lives there),emerald, yarra junction, launching place, monbulk.these are little places and you may need a detailed map.Lilydale high school is a great school my sisters child starts there soon.Places i wasnt keen on were Ballerat(very flat),Dandenong, belgrave, ferntree gully and the other places down that route. My sister who has lived there 18yrs doesnt like the places that sit near the princes highway .You will see these on a map.Anywhere down the Warburton highway and Maroondah highway is nice.If you like subs i think you would like chirnside park! my sister has ended up there and shes explored everywhere for us.hope this helps julie.

Hi Julie

It was 6 week for us between case ack to CO, between Jan to March 07.

Quite quick really! We were delayed because of our pregnancy!
